Company Overview >Empowerment and Social Responsiblity
Social Responsibility
We consider it our corporate responsibility to contribute to the upliftment of our society through
community development initiatives and employment creation. Fairness is the most underrated of all corporate
skills and this is what Tellumat wishes to promote within South African societies. A well balanced Social
Responsibility portfolio – spanning Education, Environment, Sport and Social Issues is intended to
position Tellumat as an all-rounder in social support.
Education
Khanyagula EXPO Programme
Tellumat acknowledges the role the company has to play in building a capacity for future scientific
research. As a leader in the telecommunications and defence industry, Tellumat’s success is based on
ongoing research and development, drawing on the intellectual capability provided by its engineers and
technologists in our development teams. It is Tellumat’s privilege to fund such an outstanding programme
to ensure that we re-invest in research and development acknowledging the benefit the company gets from this
field.
Sport
Tellumat sponsors the annual Spartan Harriers Athletics Club half marathon, which raises funds to assist
physically challenged and financially disadvantaged athletes and promotes sport amongst previously
disadvantaged runners.
Social Issues
Tellumat recently donated a Convergence 100 PBX telephone system to the Athlone Child Welfare
organisation which serves a community of approximately 500 000, offering vital child protection and
community services. Extending its child support policy, Tellumat also donated funds to the Jika Foundation,
specifically set up to fund the rehabilitation centre for the Burns Unit of the Red Cross Children’s
Hospital. Tellumat also recently donated a state-of-the-art Convergence 30 PBX telephone system to the Cape
Town Rape Crisis Centre in recognition of the desperate need for the kind of help offered by the Rape
Crisis Centre.
Environment
In conjunction with the South Peninsula Administration(SPA) and two other private companies, Tellumat has
instituted an ecological project to protect the Keysers River riverine environment. A poverty relief programme
assists unemployed individuals in becoming gainfully employed in the ongoing cleansing process.
